Monthly Gallery Tours – March
CURATOR-LED TOURS OF THE MERL GALLERIES
Event Navigation
Curator of MERL Collections, Dr Ollie Douglas, will be joined by a different specialist for each of these monthly tours. Together they will take visitors on a short conversational guided trip through the galleries approaching our collection from a different perspective that reflects the guest speaker’s expertise, ensuring you’ll learn something new every time.
Each tour will last about 45 minutes and will culminate in a pop-up display or an opportunity to peek behind the scenes. At the end of the session there’ll be a chance to ask questions and to chat with Ollie and his guest.
11 March: Anwen Cooper – Archaeologist
This month, Ollie will be joined by Dr Anwen Cooper, principal investigator of a project called Rewilding Later Prehistory. They’ll be talking about the challenges of identifying wildlife in the archaeological record, and the approaches that specialists are using to reimagine and understand nature within prehistory. Can these same approaches help us think about the presence (or absence) of wildlife in The MERL collections and displays? What can we learn about bias towards histories of human intervention? And can rewilding prehistory help us to rewild history, the present, or the future?
