BISCUIT TOWN: PAINT YOUR OWN BISCUITS

Painted biscuits for workshop

About this event

It’s National Biscuit Day on the 29th May! To celebrate in style, join design historian and artist Dr Ella Hawkins for a hands-on introduction to biscuit art. Discover Ella’s incredible designs on her website.

Learn how to paint colourful designs onto iced biscuits, inspired by our Huntley & Palmers collections, and take your edible art home to enjoy. Prior to the workshop, there will be a chance to look at our Biscuit Town exhibition featuring items from the Huntley & Palmers company archives and some of our handling collections close-up.

£5, suitable for adults and children aged 8+ (all children to be accompanied by a participating adult).

Workshop lasts 1.5 hours including 30 mins to look at collections first.

This workshop is also available at Reading Museum on Saturday 28th May. Book the Reading Museum workshop on their website.

Reading Biscuit Town 200

2022 marks 200 years since Joseph Huntley opened his first baker’s shop at 72 London Street, Reading. This moment marked the beginning of a business that would become world-famous, revolutionising biscuit-making across the globe like never before, and transforming Reading’s business and biscuit heritage forever: Huntley & Palmers.

This year, Reading is re-discovering its biscuit heritage with a series of events and activities across the town. Discover details of the town-wide programme on the Visit Reading website.

The MERL and Reading Museum are drawing on our Huntley & Palmers collections to offer a joint programme of events, as part of Museums Partnership Reading, and funded by Arts Council England.
