Getting here

Where possible, we encourage visitors to use public transport. If you are traveling by car, please note the following options:

  • On-site: A small car park is located directly in front of the museum. Spaces are limited and fill up quickly.

  • University of Reading (Acacia Road): Visitors are welcome to park here, but you must collect a temporary permit from our reception when you arrive and display it in your vehicle (unless you hold a University permit).

  • Street Parking (Redlands Road): Limited paid parking (max. 2 hours). These spaces are in high demand due to the nearby Royal Berkshire Hospital.

  • Public Car Parks: The closest multi-storey option is the Queens Road car park, which is approximately a 10-minute walk to the museum.

Families

We love welcoming families around the museum. Plan a family day out that has something for everyone. Plus, learn about the activities we offer to our youngest visitors, from every day crafts to special events.

FAQs

Is visiting free?

Yes! We encourage a £5 suggested donation per visitor. Find out more.

Can I bring pets?

We welcome suitably trained assistance and support dogs. They must be under your control during your visit. Ideally, your dog should remain on a lead or within a carrier and wear a relevant tabard or harness.

If your assistance or support dog is not registered with ADI, ADUK or IGDF, we reserve the right to deny entry to your dog if it does not appear to have been appropriately trained.

If you plan to visit with an assistance animal other than an assistance dog, please get in touch to discuss your request with us to avoid disappointment on the day at merlevents@reading.ac.uk.

Unfortunately we cannot admit pets across our site, including in the museum galleries, shop, café, and the garden.
