CPD and The MERL Teachers’ Panel

The MERL Teachers’ Panel is a chance for teachers to share their views with our learning team, and shape our learning programmes.

As a forum for educators, being a member of our Teachers’ Panel gives you access to exclusive opportunities to engage with our object, archive and library collections. You will have the chance to help steer and shape The MERL learning programmes and get involved in collaborative projects.

Meetings take place termly on a Thursday from 4 pm to 5 pm. Each session covers a different aspect of The MERL programme.

Feedback

‘Every visit to the Teacher’s Panel provides another opportunity to think about differing aspects and perspectives of education, with opportunities to share ideas with other practitioners and receive updates on the progress of content and themes within The MERL. The refreshments are also pretty good!’

‘The MERL is a valuable asset to have on our doorstep. We have integrated help from the staff there as well as planning visits and integrating the themes into our own STEM programme at Reading Girls’ School. In the past we have taken part in the 51 voices celebration of the 70th Anniversary of MERL while in lockdown where girls designed sensory gardens and looking at an art project with some of our girls. This year we have an ambitious programme to visit the site for all of Year 7 across the year. They could not be more helpful and the meetings are a valuable way to share ideas and have a creative input so that we can get the most out of this valuable site’.
