Our Green Stories: Life on Land Films

Museums Partnership Reading (The Museum of English Rural Life and Reading Museum, supported by Arts Council England) are focusing on exploring climate change, sustainability, biodiversity loss and related issues through our collections. Through the Our Green Stories campaign, we are championing environmental responsibility and the people and organisations in our community that make Reading a more sustainable place to live.

The campaign has been inspired and informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a set of guidelines that offer a holistic solution to the complex range of problems we face across the world. The projects we are delivering within Our Green Stories relate to six of the Sustainable Development Goals, based on their strong relevance to our collections and work.

The MPR Youth Panel – who inform and influence our programme and are change-makers within Reading’s culture and heritage sector – created short form videos and stop animations as a call to action relating to UN Goal 15 Life on Land

Cook Seasonal

Cook Seasonal
The MPR Youth Panel dig into archive recipe books and the garden at The MERL, to inspire you to make and bake something delicious using seasonal veg. Rely less on global, industrial agriculture and break the illusion that food is never out of season.

Farm With Care

Farm with Care
Agricultural practices cause around 24-30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Farmers are looking at ways to reduce their emissions, including going back to older practices such as crop rotation rather than the use of chemical fertilisers and increasing the production of organic food. The Red Tractor logo means that the food you buy has been responsibly sourced, safely produced and comes from crops and animals that have been well cared for.
