Further Afield
The Further Afield project aims to address the issue of absence in the countryside. Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, it is working alongside community groups related to protected characteristics, in order to support their activity and improve representation within our collections and programmes. The project gives these community groups creative control over our work together. In doing so, we hope to redress the balance and show that the countryside is not just a white, heteronormative and able-bodied place. The three groups we are primarily working with are Dadima’s Walks, Rainbow Canopy, and Inclusive Farm. Read more about our partners and plans in this introductory blog below.
The Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund is run by the Museums Association, funding projects that develop collections to achieve social impact. Since its launch in 2011, it has awarded 178 grants totaling over £12.9 million.
