Medhurst, John (Landscape Architect)
John Medhurst worked at the Greater London Council and as a lecturer at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew before forming his practice, John Medhurst – Landscape Consultant. He is a chartered Landscape Architect with additional qualifications in horticulture and garden and landscape conservation. His experience covers both public and private schemes and his work has been recognised by several awards including those for his contribution on the IMAX Cinema (see AR MED A/25 and AR MED D/6) and Kingston University’s Kingston Hill Campus (see AR MED A/23 and AR MED D/5).
One of John Medhurst’s long-standing interests has been in photographing trees and recording their values and characteristics. He has created an online catalogue, called Trees in London – an online resource, illustrating the variety of trees.
This collection was donated in 2015. It contains a variety of material selected by the Landscape Institute, covering Medhurst’s career from 1977 until 2008. This includes a number of his drawing files, project reports and submissions, personal records, and other miscellaneous records.
