Reading Climate Festival at The MERL, 8-21st June 2024

We are excited to be taking part in Reading Climate Festival this year, with a series of events and activities exploring our changing climate as part of Museum Partnership Reading’s Our Green Stories campaign.

We are very excited to be able to continue displaying the artwork from the Ladybird Books Ltd publication ‘Climate Change’,  written by King Charles, Tony Juniper and Emily Shuckburgh, and published in 2017.

On 15th June, adults and young people aged 14+ can join us for a dynamic collage workshop and panel event which explore the potential of agroforestry (farming and forestry) to mitigate climate change and enhance biodiversity with Dr. Jen Clarke (anthropologist, artist and educator, leading the arts research on a multi-disciplinary project about Agroforestry in the UK.)

On 18th June, as part of our monthly Our Green Stories Gallery Tours, our Curator Ollie, will be joined by Professor Carol Wagstaff (Research Dean for Agriculture, Food and Health at the University of Reading) to explore links between The MERL’s displays and contemporary and sustainable food systems.

Our youngest visitors won’t miss out either, with a specially themed Friday Fledglings session in the MERL garden on 21st June and as well as events organised specifically for the Festival, you will also be able to explore existing displays and trails inspired by Our Green Stories, including Sew What?, looking at fast fashion, and the Our Green Stories gallery trail.
