Monthly Gallery Tours – November

Visitors in The MERL galleries

About this event

Curator of MERL Collections, Dr Ollie Douglas, will be joined by a different specialist for each of these monthly tours. Together they will take visitors on a short conversational guided trip through the galleries approaching our collection from a different perspective that reflects the guest speaker’s expertise, ensuring you’ll learn something new every time.

11 November: Anahita Harding

Ahead of Disability History Month (20 November – 20 December) join Ollie Douglas in conversation with Anahita Harding to think about overlooked histories of deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent people in rural life. Help them as they seek out stories of disability in the Museum’s displays and collections. Anahita is an artist whose practice explores bodily difference and disability. She recently held a Curating Visibility Fellowship at the Food Museum, where she brought her lived experience and expertise to bear on collections like those of The MERL. Together with Ollie, she’ll take us on a journey through narratives of disability in the history of food and farming. There will also be a chance to explore a few disability-related objects from the reserve collections.
