NISSEN
A gallery installation exploring resettlement after the Second World War
Event Navigation

NISSEN is an installation based on the Nissen huts at Checkendon Woods that housed Polish refugees as part of the post-World War II resettlement programme. Visitors are welcome to step inside, listen to the stories of those who lived in or came across the huts, and leave your memories of resettlement.
We’re also hosting a special event looking at the history of Polish resettlement as part of the commemorations of the end of the Second World War on 23 May. This workshop is led by staff from The National Archives. Find out more.
NISSEN has been co-created with Professor Teresa Murjas of the University of Reading’s Department of Film, Theatre and Television.
