LADYBIRD BOOKS FAMILY FUN DAY

The MERL and Reading Museum are teaming up to offer a range of fun crafts and activities across both venues to celebrate the opening of the new exhibition Ladybird Books: ‘How it works’. Drop in and enjoy crafts for all the family, including ladybird hats, pompoms or balloons! Decorate both museums with ladybird garlands and enjoy story-time at 11am and 2pm in the exhibition. Then follow a fun trail from one museum to the other via the stunning Forbury Gardens and Abbey Ruins.

£5/child (covers all activities at both museums). Pay on the day.

At The MERL:

• Create a ladybird story in the woodland
• identify the ladybird species on our garden trail
• Make twirling ladybirds
• Make a bug house and learn about ladybird habitats
• Create ladybird bunting
• Visit our giant ladybird model
• Use our knitted ladybirds in the MERL Shepherd’s Hut to learn a ladybird’s lifecycle
• Have fun with ladybird-themed games
• Join in with a ladybird pebble-and-spoon races
• Play with our garden games and water play (wet weather clothing advisable)

This family fun day is part of the events programme inspired by Ladybird Books: ‘How it Works’, a new exhibition hosted at  Reading Museum as part of Museums Partnership Reading, a new cultural initiative funded by Arts Council England, presenting material from the extensive Ladybird Books Archive housed at in the Special Collections at the University of Reading.

Parking

Please remember that parking at The MERL is limited. It’s best to walk or use public transport if you can. If you do drive, there are some spaces in the car park at the front of the museum. If you park in the University car park on Acacia Road to the side of the museum, you must collect a permit from reception to display in your car. For details visit Getting Here.
